Solaris Kit | social media video

This is our most recent social media video shoot and edit for the UK Government. A social media video is a short-form video crafted specifically to drive engagement actions and captivate viewers on social networks. Our social media video campaigns often require a 60-second edit for You Tube / a 1×1 aspect version for Facebook  and a 9:16 aspect version for Instagram – so it’s important to think about all three aspect ratios when framing. We did the same for all six films in this series: Glenfiddich, Indienature , Pawprint, Remode Collective , and our COP 26 Volunteer.

When shooting social media videos we film our interviews first where possible so when I collect the additional video content I have ideas about what ‘b-roll’ might be most suitable. Social media videos are required to be very short – as short as 15 seconds – so having interviews deliver short, engaging soundbites can be crucial.  For this reason I often film using a two camera set up – to allow the removal or extra content – without the need to cut away to b-roll (or GVs as we used to call it in Britain).
