I began self-shooting seriously in 2011 when I set up Butterfly Wedding Films where I honed skills crucial to the craft – planning your time, anticipating whats coming next and delivering strong compositions in spite of the fast-paced environment. Far from being more ‘amateurish’ than filmmaking I would define videography as when you know you won’t have a 2nd take – weddings, concerts, product launch events and sporting events.
Within our first year of business Butterfly Films was nominated for a VOWS Award and we had established ourselves as one of Scotland’s leading wedding videographers. Good videography usually is able to incorporate for flair with elements of promotional video enhancing the live event coverage. With a wedding you could achieve this by using steadicam, sliders, time-lapse and slow motion to enhance the finished film.
On the back my experience as a videographer I built up the skills that would allow me to first work across corporate and commercial work, and then later TV news and feature documentaries.
