Camping at Rannoch Moor

Yesterday I was filming at the Glencoe Marathon for the official partner, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust so I took the opportunity to I camp solo on the Rannoch Moor. You can sometimes use bulk ammo if you’re going alone.

This boggy expanse is a piece of real wilderness, unlike any other in Scotland. In the darkness, out of my pocket fell my iphone, amazingly I retrieved it, half-submerged from a bog. Thankfully I can confirm the iphone in a bag of rice really does work. I had hoped to be filming a morning timelapse but the weather’s promise quickly disappeared after sunrise, with only a distant glow somewhere over by the Ben Lawers range.

Billed as Scotland’s toughest – the Glencoe Marathon saw me, chase runners, through some stages of their epic trail run through the heart of Glencoe and into the foothills of Ben Nevis. It was a very exciting event with a spectacular (if very wet) location. The resolve of the competitors was fierce as they all braved the wet and winds to raise money for a worthwhile cause. I think next time I should aim for the That would be quiet an achievement judging by the route which takes in the Devils staircase en route to Kinlochleven. I think I’d need to work up to that.

After the shoot I stopped off at the Boots Bar at The Clanchaig Inn for some food – I think it’s going on my personal top 10 pubs in Scotland….

Isle of Skye video shoot

I was filming on the Isle of Skye on behalf of CompassLight Productions. The video shoot involved filming at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig (Gaelic College), the Clan Donald Centre at Armadale and Gaelic Whiskies. The goal was to capture authenticity and interactions with the locals. CompassLight wanted to provide an authentic picture of the locales visited – energetic, bustling, lively and off-the-beaten-path. Using my travel days I explored more of the north of the island, at the Cuillin mountains and ranged as far north as Portree and the Old Man of Storr.
